Ayushman Bharat Yojna , also known as Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojna (PMJAY), is a health insurance scheme introduced by the Government of India. PMJAY scheme aims to help economically vulnerable people (lower and underserved sections of the society) who are in need of healthcare facilities. The scheme offers financial security against medical treatment costs, diagnostics, medicines, and pre-hospitalization expenses. PMJAY plans to make secondary and tertiary healthcare completely cashless. The PM Jan Arogya Yojna beneficiaries get an e-card that can be used to avail services at an empanelled hospital, public or private, anywhere in the country.
Salient Features of PMJAY Scheme
- Ayushman Bharat – National Health Protection Mission will have a defined benefit cover of Rs. 5 lakh per family per year.
- Benefits of the scheme are portable across the country and a beneficiary covered under the scheme will be allowed to take cashless benefits from any public/private empanelled hospitals across the country
Ayushman Bharat – National Health Protection Mission will be an entitlement based scheme with entitlement decided on the basis of deprivation criteria in the SECC database.
